Words!!

Words, words, words. A collection of letters and sounds that we give meaning too. Without us giving meaning to these collections of letters they would mean nothing. The meanings of words constantly is changing. So when someone can't see past one meaning of a word to see a different meaning of the word in a fantasy setting, this irks me. The word that started this rant is the word daemon, and how it is used in the context of the book The Golden Compass. The meaning of this word at this time means a creature of evil. In the book it is used to mean the animal manifestation of a person's soul. Now hard can it be to put aside one meaning/understanding of a word to enjoy a work of fiction? Its not as if someone is telling you that this is what the word should mean, they are just saying that in this imaginary world this is what it means. People who can't understand this drive me crazy.
Oi. Enough ranting for now.

What are you talking about? A daemon is a process that waits for some condition to perform a task. More common in Unix-based operating systems. <.<

Also, 'demon' is Australian slang for a police officer.

Words as simple as "work" or "acceleration" or even "elsewhere" mean something much different in the context of physics than they would in ordinary conversation. Words should always be taken in context.
